The Mayodan police reported that Atiya Douglas and Kenya Robinson broke into a residence on North Fourth Avenue in Mayodan around 1 a.m. this morning. They took an 11-month-old from his mother, only to be found with the child's father in Greensboro a few hours later.
Mayodan police stated that once the suspects entered the building, they assaulted the boy's mother and fled the scene in a silver four-door car. An Amber Alert was issued for the child, and warrants were issued for the suspects. Greensboro police took both Douglas and Robinson into custody when they located them on East Wendover Avenue with the 11-month-old and his father. Some neighbors near the abduction site expressed concerns for the community.
"Crime is a whole lot worse now than it was back in the old days when we were growing up, you know what I mean. we could walk the street; we could sleep with our doors open, and you can't do it no more," said Robert Farmer a Mayodan resident.
The child was found unharmed, and the mother suffered minor injuries. Charges for the suspects are still being discussed as the case is an active investigation.
