Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino is ashamed he didn't sever ties with disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein after first hearing of his bad behavior.

The movie mogul, who has worked extensively with Tarantino, has been stripped of his The Weinstein Company board role and is now under police investigation following sexual assault and rape charges on the back of damning The New York Times and The New Yorker exposes, and the "Reservoir Dogs" director admits he has known for decades about Harvey Weinstein's alleged misconduct.

"I knew enough to do more than I did," Quentin tells the Times. "There was more to it than just the normal rumors, the normal gossip. It wasn't secondhand. I knew he did a couple of these things."

Tarantino's former girlfriend, Mira Sorvino, is among the actresses who have shared their sordid experiences with Weinstein, but Quentin insists she never told him about the time the producer harassed her for a sexual relationship, and even showed up at her apartment in the mid-1990's.

The director reveals he and his ex are still friends and they texted each other after her allegations appeared in The New Yorker.

"Mira, her husband and her kids have come over and spent many hours together with us," he says, "(but) she never told me. And now I literally was texting with her, and she said, 'Are you mad at me?' And I said, 'Mad at you? I'm so proud of you, but I feel sick that you had to hold that kind of thing in'."

The filmmaker reveals Sorvino told him about Weinstein's unwanted advances, admitting he was aware that his "Grindhouse" leading lady Rose McGowan had reached a legal settlement with Weinstein following allegations he had been inappropriate with her.

According to the Times, Tarantino tried to reach Weinstein after the exposes were published, but he has not spoken to him yet.
